Maya the Magnificent--inspiration for so many great ballerinas who followed her legendary legacy. I saw her dance in Swan Lake when I was in my early teens--I have never forgotten her. Not until I saw the great Natalya Osipova did I see anything like her in ability or dramatic presentation.

Elen, I cannot thank you enough for posting this video of Maya Plisetskaya performing the Dying Swan. I saw this live performance in 1973 or 1974 in the U.S. and was awe struck. I have never seen it performed as beautifully since that time. I was recently reminded of the performance and even called the Metropolitan Opera House to see if they had a video of that performance. Sadly, they did not start capturing video until the 1980's. I was bereft. Then I found you and this recording. This captures one of the peak moments of my life. I am forever grateful.
